Worlds’ most advanced offshore platform choose atg UV

Client: Troll, Offshore Platform
Location: Troll gas field, North Sea
Service: UV Drinking Water Disinfection
Description: Drinking water systems for operation in Zone II Hazardous Areas

The offshore industry demands high specification, high performance, compact systems with an ability to withstand harsh and unforgiving environments such as the North Sea, where operational temperatures can reach as low as minus ten degrees centigrade.

ATEX UV Systems for Drinking Water - Troll Platform

The Troll platform, a condeep offshore natural gas platform in the Troll gas field boasts the claim as the tallest construction that has ever been moved to another position, relative to the surface of the Earth, and is among the largest and most complex engineering projects in human history.

Standing at a height of 472 metres and weighing over 656,000 tons, the troll platform depends on a crew of over 350 engineers to draw natural gas from over 40 gas fields on the sea floor.

In order to keep the Troll crew safe from infectious waterborne diseases such as Legionella and Cryptosporidium, operators called upon market leader's atg UV Technology to develop and design two high specification duty-standby UV systems housed within specially designed offshore skids capable of meeting their demands.

The process of disinfecting water with UV light is a proven technology for drinking and process water in many industries, however the high standards required by the offshore industry commanded the Troll UV disinfection systems to be engineered way beyond the normal specification of many manufacturers"

Working closely with Troll engineers, atg UV engineered a bespoke duty-stand-by UV package for the disinfection of potable water for crew drinking supplies that was suitable for use in harsh and hazardous environment of the North Sea.

UV Drinking Water Disinfection Skid Package

The atg UV package comprised of two high specification, validated compact ECL-220-8 reactors built from 316 stainless steel, arranged in a duty/assist/standby configuration with two integrated offshore specification SPECTRA control systems to ensure the system was a true duty-stand-by package, ensuring full automatic control of the disinfection process at all times.

Using microprocessor technology, SPECTRA combines many innovative features such as fully automatic start-up and shut down, multiple lamp monitoring, process interlocks and automatic quartz cleaning. Additionally the SPECTRA control system provides Troll engineers with data on flow rate, UV dose and intensity while the SPECTRA's integrated data logger provides performance data which can be easily downloaded to a PC or Laptop for review.

A proven track record and extensively developed technology positions atg UV as the clear market leader in the offshore and marine industries. Plants treating in excess of 4,000 M3/hr have been supplied by atg UV, whose breakthrough UV systems have been designed and engineered to meet the exacting standards required by the off-shore industry.  Additionally atg UV Technology can offer a full range of ATEX UV systems for opperation in Hazardous Zones 1 & 2 and have experience in designing UV equipement to NORSOK, NiPH, GOST & US EPA UVDGM specifications.
