atg UV awarded for 'making the impossible possible' during Cryptosporidium outbreak

Following a major outbreak of Cryptosporidium in Northampton in June 2008, atg UV Technology, experts in Ultraviolet disinfection systems, with vast experience in dealing with the threat of Cryptosporidium were called into action by Anglian Water, geographically the largest water company within England and Wales, serving 2.6 million homes and businesses across East Anglia and the Midlands.

Cryptosporidium, now a major concern for water treatment engineers worldwide, in both the drinking water and aquatic industries has evolved to develop a thick outer shell, making it highly resistant to traditional methods of chemical disinfection such as chlorine, vastly increasing the risk of infection and illness, which can often be fatal in the young and elderly.

atg UV Technology, calling upon their past experience of Cryptosporidium with the New York Department of Health quickly responded to the threat, which had already left up to 4000 homes without safe water, by providing two Medium Pressure Eco-Line Ultraviolet Disinfection Chambers, with an integrated state-of-the-art SPECTRA control system.

Anglian Waters investment in atg UV's world class treatment technology has now ensured that they are protected from future outbreaks of Cryptosporidium, as well as safeguarding public health against other micro-organisms such as Legionnaire's Disease and Cholera.  In recognition of their efforts, atg UV Technology were officially recognized by Anglian Water in a presentation for "making the impossible possible" during what was a stressful and challenging time for all involved.

Onsite atg UV  Engineer, Karl Sparenberg, who handled Anglians transition to Ultraviolet protection at their Pitsford site, commented "our experience in the UV industry, particularly with outbreaks of Cryptosporidium allowed us to respond at an amazing speed, it's great to receive recognition for a job well done".
